Official: Víctor Ibarbo continues his career at 36
Víctor Ibarbo has not yet decided to hang up his boots. At 36, the former Colombia winger has officially signed for ASD Calcio San Cataldo, a club playing in Italy’s fifth tier, according to the team’s announcement.
A new challenge after a spell in Serie D
Ibarbo had been playing for US Città di Pontedera in Serie D, the fourth tier of Italian football, in recent months. After just two months with the club, he is continuing his career at a lower level by joining San Cataldo. This new chapter marks a turning point in the winger’s career, which has taken him through several leagues during his professional journey.
Trained in Colombia at Atlético Nacional, Víctor Ibarbo joined Cagliari in 2011, where he became known to Italian fans. He subsequently represented AS Roma, making 13 appearances and providing one assist. The forward also tried his luck at Watford, Panathinaikos and in Japan, notably with Sagan Tosu and V-Varen Nagasaki. In summer 2023, he returned to his homeland to play for América de Cali and then Inter Palmira.
An international who played at the 2014 World Cup
Ibarbo earned 15 caps for Colombia. He was notably part of the squad that participated in the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. He also remains well known among FIFA video game fans, particularly for his popularity in Ultimate Team mode between 2013 and 2015, when he was virtually paired with Gervinho and Seydou Doumbia in the colors of AS Roma.
Víctor Ibarbo has scored 15 goals and provided 14 assists in 130 Serie A appearances. At San Cataldo, he is now preparing to take on a challenge far removed from the major European stages he experienced during his career.
