Oswin Appollis reacts to PSL accolade, Mofokeng exit

Orlando Pirates attacker Oswin Appollis has reflected on winning the 2025/26 Betway Premiership Midfielder of the Season accolade during the PSL awards on Monday night.

The 24-year-old winger edged out strong competition from former teammate Relebohile Mofokeng and Mamelodi Sundowns' midfield general Teboho Mokoena for the gong.

He scored nine goals and provided six assists in 30 matches in the league last season, in what was his maiden campaign in the famous black and white shirt of Pirates.

With his exploits recognized by the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Appollis expressed gratitude to Pirates for signing him, and everyone associated with the Soweto giants.

“I obviously have to thank the club for signing me, I have to thank the coach, I have to thank the backroom staff, and most importantly, I have to thank my teammates because without them it wasn't going to be possible,” said the Bucs wideman.

The Bafana international went on to address the departure of Mofokeng to Belgian Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise, with the duo having contributed 41 goals last term.

“It was obviously hard to lose him but he deserves it, and I just want to wish him all the best in Belgium, but the club have signed quality players,” added Appollis, who's now expected to fill the void left by Mofokeng.

"And I believe with the quality that we have we can get goals and assists from everyone that's an attacker here, and we will work hard.

Pirates, meanwhile, will kickstart their Betway Premiership title defense with a visit from newcomers Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, 01 August.
