Palermo: Salim Diakité loaned out again
Change of course for Salim Diakité. Zulte Waregem, a Belgian First Division club, has officially announced the arrival of the Malian defender. He joins on a season-long loan from Palermo, with an option to buy.
At 26, Diakité began his career at FC Mantois. In 2019, he left France for Italy and has remained on the peninsula ever since.
Years in Serie B
After stints with Agnonese, Teramo, and then Ternana, the right-back joined Palermo in January 2024. With the Rosanero, he played 66 matches for the first team. Last season, he was loaned to Juve Stabia, where he made 14 appearances.
First taste of top flight with Zulte Waregem
Having only played in Serie B since his arrival in Italy, Diakité is now set to experience a new league. This marks the Malian international’s debut in a top-tier division.
In Belgium, he hopes to find consistency and take his game to the next level. The loan runs until the end of the season, and Zulte Waregem has the option to make the deal permanent if impressed by the Malian international’s performances (8 caps). For Diakité, the goal is to establish himself in Belgium and make a significant step forward in his career.
