Pitso Mosimane announces final Bafana squad for AFCON qualifiers

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has named his final squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers later this month.

South Africa will square off against Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, 26 September, before visiting Eritrea at a neutral venue in Egypt, Cairo four days later.

Notably, the East African nation chose the venue as they lack CAF approved stadiums to host Mosimane and his troops in their country.

Bafana, meanwhile, are also set to face Egypt in an away international friendly match on 04 October, with the FIFA International break set to run for an extended period of three weeks.

Mosimane retained the same goalkeepers named by his predecessor Hugo Broos in the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, having opted against including other goalies in his preliminary team.

Fawaaz Basadien makes a return to the Bafana fold in defence after strong performances for Mamelodi Sundowns this season, while Orlando Pirates' Lebone Seema earned his maiden national team call-up.

Kaizer Chiefs midfield dynamo Lebohang Maboe, who made the World Cup provisional squad, also return to the national team as Brooklyn Poggenpoel was rewarded with a first-ever call-up.

Orlando Pirates cult hero Yanela Mbuthuma, Puso Dithejane, and Tashreeq Matthews earned their first call-ups, while Cassius Mailula and Luther Singh also make a return to the national team.
