Polokwane City appoint new coach
Exclusive
Foot Africa has it on good authority that Betway Premiership side Polokwane City have appointed Bayano Moloto as the club's new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
This comes after the club parted ways with Phuti Mohafe at the end of last season, with the outspoken mentor taking over the reins at Marumo Gallants.
Mohafe steered Rise and Shine to a seventh place finish in the Betway Premiership last term, making it an impressive three consecutive top half finishes under his guidance.
He had taken over on an interim basis in November 2023 after the untimely departure of then-head coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who left for provincial rivals Sekhukhune United.
Now, sources have reliably told this publication that the Limpopo-based outfit has moved swiftly to install Moloto as the new boss to succeed Mohafe in the dugout.
Moloto is no stranger to Polokwane City having previously been in charge of the club's reserve team in the Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) back in 2017.
Furthermore, the Seshego-born tactician also served as City's caretaker coach and assistant coach in the Motsepe Foundation Championship between 2020 and 2021.
Having proved a loyal servant in various capacities, Polokwane City boss Johnny Mogaladi has now entrusted the former Ria Stars defender with the first-team.
The CAF B License holder has a reputation for nurturing young talent at Molemole and Turfloop academies, which aligns with City's football philosophy and vision.
With the new season slowly approaching, it remains to be seen how Rise and Shine will fare under the tutelage of Moloto, who's set for his first assignment in the topflight.
