Portugal: Bruno Fernandes’ clear position on Cristiano Ronaldo

Last Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Portugal’s camp after being left on the bench against Norway.

Asked about the matter, Bruno Fernandes, who is close to Cristiano Ronaldo, paid tribute to his former captain. "I had a conversation with Cris. I spoke to him directly, and I think what I told him is exactly what I’m going to repeat here. The most important thing is that, whatever happens, Cris will never stop being the greatest symbol of our national team, the greatest symbol of our football and, probably—no, certainly—the greatest symbol of our country because of everything he has achieved, not only in Portugal but throughout the world. I think he has a place reserved for him, without a doubt, not only among the greatest of all time, but also in the hearts of all Portuguese people," said the Manchester United player.

Bruno Fernandes then tried to defuse the situation: "And I think the most important thing now is that we stop creating divisions, because there are no divisions within the national team. The national team is one, and it will always remain so, regardless of the stupid noise that may come from outside. I think every household should settle its affairs behind closed doors, and I think that is how the national team should operate. I think that is how it will operate, and I am certain that the most important thing is for everything to end well for both sides."
