Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo, the government takes action
On Wednesday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave the Portugal squad prematurely. The matter continues to make headlines in the Portuguese media.
Just a few hours before tonight’s match against Denmark, and especially Jorge Jesus’ press conference that will follow, new information is emerging bit by bit. This afternoon, Record reported that the affair had reached Portugal’s highest political circles.
The newspaper reports that Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro contacted Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. The aim was notably to speak with Jorge Jesus following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. The details of the conversation have not emerged, but Record explains that Montenegro wanted to speak with Jesus because he has very good relations with the new Portugal manager.
