Premier League: Belloumi and Semenyo nominated for September Player of the Month

Mohamed Bachir Belloumi and Antoine Semenyo have been included among the eight nominees for the September Player of the Month award.

The Premier League unveiled on Thursday the eight players in contention for the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for September. Among them are two African representatives: Algerian Mohamed Bachir Belloumi, who has made an impressive start to the season with Hull City, and Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo, who has already been highly influential in Manchester City's attack.

The other six candidates are Jayden Bogle, Pascal Groß, Alexander Isak, Jeremy Jacquet, Charalampos Kostoulas and Kevin Schade. Supporters' voting will remain open until Monday, September 28, at 12:00 BST, before being combined with the votes of an expert panel.

Belloumi, two goals and an assist in September

Belloumi played in all three league rounds during the month, finishing with 2 goals and 1 assist. His standout moment came at Stamford Bridge: the Algerian international scored twice in just six minutes against Chelsea to earn Hull City a 2-2 draw.

He then made the difference in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle by setting up Mohamed-Ali Cho's goal. His consistency had already been noticed after the Chelsea match, as Belloumi finished second in the Player of the Matchday Four vote with 23% of the votes, just three points behind David Raya. A particularly encouraging rise for Algeria, where he has just returned to Brahim Hemdani's squad.

Semenyo, four decisive contributions and three wins

Semenyo boasts an even more complete record in September: 3 matches, 3 wins, 2 goals and 2 assists. He first set up Erling Haaland's winning goal against Coventry City (1-0), before playing a part in the derby victory over Manchester United.

The Ghanaian really made his mark against Sunderland. His brace in Manchester City's spectacular 5-3 victory was accompanied by an assist for Rayan Cherki. He played the full 90 minutes in all three league matches during the month and directly contributed to four goals.

Two Africans facing strong competition

Semenyo is already familiar with this award, having been named Player of the Month in February 2026, shortly after joining Manchester City. Belloumi could claim his first individual award at this level and confirm his rapid adaptation to the English top flight.

However, the two Africans will have to contend with strong competition, notably Alexander Isak, who scored three goals in September, and Pascal Groß, who recorded two goals and three assists. For Ghana as well as Algeria, this double nomination nevertheless confirms the excellent start to the season made by two of their most prominent attacking players in England.
