PSL newcomers enter race to sign former Mamelodi Sundowns talent

Foot Africa understands that newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Hope FC have entered the race to sign highly-rated tricky winger Giovanni Philander.

The 26-year-old attacker is currently unattached after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Chippa United at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

He made 33 appearances with one assist for the Chilli Boys, having joined the club in July 2024 after impressing for FN Rangers in the ABC Motsepe League National playoffs.

Philander featured 12 times with no goal contribution last season as the Gqeberha-based team narrowly escaped relegation, finishing in 13th place on the log standings.

Now, with the player eligible to sign for any team of his choice, sources have told this publication that Hope FC are in talks to facilitate a move to the Mother City.

However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns reserve team star is not short of suitors, with Betway Premiership side Durban City understood to be assessing the player.

Notably, Philander would reunite with fellow Capetonians in Lyle Lakay, Brandon Theron, Tauric Gamildien, and Selwyn Stevens, among others, at Hope FC.

Whether Hope FC will succeed in their pursuit of the speedy forward remains to be seen, amid strong competition from the topflight division ahead of the 2026/27 season.
