Just days before the start of the World Cup, Rafael Leão found himself at the center of controversy during the friendly between Portugal and Chile.

It all began with a clash between João Cancelo and Chilean defender Iván Román. Coming to his teammate’s defense, Leão stepped into the altercation and was penalized for what the referee deemed a violent gesture towards his opponent.

The referee wasted no time in brandishing a red card to the Portuguese striker, while Iván Román was also given his marching orders. Both teams finished the match with ten men. Final score: 2-1 to Portugal.
