The German press revealed on Tuesday that Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on Nico Schlotterbeck, the German international defender from Borussia Dortmund, ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to the daily Bild, the 26-year-old is among the top priorities for the Madrid club, who are looking to bolster their defensive ranks to approach the new season with greater security.

The same source notes that José Mourinho is particularly fond of Schlotterbeck's profile. The Portuguese manager sees him as a player capable of bringing solidity, leadership, and valuable experience to the Merengues' back line.

Despite his recent contract extension with Borussia Dortmund until June 2031, the German defender remains closely monitored by Real Madrid's management, who are impressed by his consistent performances in the Ruhr club's colors.

After an impressive season, Schlotterbeck featured in 37 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

The centre-back is now gearing up to take part in the 2026 World Cup with the German national team, aiming to play a key role for Die Mannschaft during the tournament set to take place in North America.
