Real Madrid: José Mourinho already pleased with his team's level
After a narrow win against Deportivo La Coruña in Wednesday night's friendly, José Mourinho praised the intensity brought by the opposition during the Teresa Herrera Trophy.
Real Madrid wrapped up their third pre-season match with a victory over Deportivo La Coruña thanks to a goal from Brahim Diaz. Speaking to Real Madrid TV, José Mourinho noted that the newly promoted La Liga side forced his team to raise their game.
"They made us play seriously, it was tough. They wanted their trophy and playing like that is excellent training for us," said the former Manchester United manager. This demanding opposition is exactly what the Portuguese tactician was looking for at this stage of pre-season.
However, José Mourinho is not making results his top priority during this spell at Real Madrid. His main focus is to spread game time among his players and experiment with different tactical formations ahead of the 2026-2027 league campaign.
"More than changing players, it's about modifying the structure," he explained. Mourinho is especially pleased with his squad's development: "A lot of positives, the team is making progress."
