Real Madrid: Josip Stanisic provokes Antonio Rüdiger
On Wednesday night, Bayern Munich’s victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg (4-3) left a bitter taste for the Madrid side. Josip Stanisic, the Croatian defender for Bayern Munich, was left frustrated by a controversial moment on the pitch.
Josip Stanisic criticized Antonio Rüdiger’s behavior after what he considered a violent challenge and an insult while he was on the ground. Before halftime, with the score tied at 2-2, Stanisic outplayed Rüdiger and passed the ball to a teammate. However, the German defender from Real Madrid then crashed into him forcefully, showing no restraint.
After the match, Stanisic didn’t hide his anger about the contentious incident: “He saw me coming and deliberately barged into me. What happened when I was on the ground is unacceptable. He said a word to me, twice. I don't want to cause trouble, but maybe if you ask him, he’ll be man enough to admit what he said.”
The Croatian also stressed that he wasn’t looking to stir up controversy: “I don’t take it personally. These things happen in the heat of the moment. But I don’t think it’s acceptable.”
