Real Madrid makes a surprising decision regarding Ferland Mendy

Recovering from a hamstring tear that required surgery last May, Ferland Mendy is continuing his rehabilitation and could be back in team training as early as September. For now, a departure from Real Madrid is not on the table.

The player's camp remains optimistic and denies reports that he could be sidelined for up to a year, while the Madrid club initially projected an absence of four to five months. Upon his return, the Frenchman will face stiff competition for a starting spot.

However, according to AS, Ferland Mendy's departure is far from being finalized at Real Madrid. The Spanish club has not started any discussions with the Frenchman to negotiate a release or a transfer, nor have they asked him to look for a new club. Real Madrid is also aware that his recent injury history and current unavailability make any move particularly complicated. Under contract until June 2028, and despite no official announcement from the club regarding an extension, Mendy could very well continue his journey in the Spanish capital.
