Real Madrid: Michael Olise makes U-turn after Bayern’s refusal

After an outstanding season, Michael Olise reportedly wanted to join Real Madrid. Bayern Munich, however, refused to open the door to his departure.

Michael Olise’s summer could have taken him away from Bayern Munich. According to L’Équipe, the French winger dreamed of joining Real Madrid, but Bayern’s hierarchy stood firm. The 24-year-old has since returned with renewed ambition. His entourage says he is “very happy in Munich” and now wants to “win everything with Bayern this season.”

Outstanding numbers for Bayern and France

Olise made 52 appearances for Bayern during the 2025/26 campaign and scored 22 goals. In detail, he registered 15 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches, five in 13 Champions League appearances and two in six DFB-Pokal games, in addition to one appearance in the German Super Cup. His assist total varies depending on the statistical method: Opta credits him with 26 — 19 in the Bundesliga, six in Europe and one in the cup — while Transfermarkt lists 31. He then finished the 2026 World Cup as its leading assist provider after setting up seven goals for France.

That remarkable output explains Bayern’s stance. Herbert Hainer warned: “Michael Olise is a Bayern Munich player [...] and we are not a club that sells players.” The president also told Florentino Pérez that submitting an offer would be pointless. Jan-Christian Dreesen later confirmed that he had received “neither a letter, nor a fax, nor a phone call” from Spain, adding that nobody at the club had called for a sale even in the event of a €200 million bid.

Real Madrid move fades as Liverpool remain interested

Real Madrid appeared to be Olise’s preferred destination, but that route now looks almost completely closed. Los Blancos signed Yan Diomande, who can operate on either wing, for €125 million plus €10 million in add-ons. The Ivorian consequently became the most expensive signing in the club’s history and agreed a contract running until 2033.

Liverpool have also considered the French international as a successor to Mohamed Salah. That interest, however, has never developed into a concrete offer. Under contract with Bayern until June 2029, Olise is therefore expected to remain in Bavaria for at least one more season. The Reds could emerge as a future option, but there is currently no agreement and no evidence that the player favours a move to Anfield.
