Real Madrid: Vinicius Jr's suspension length revealed, he will miss the Clasico

Vinicius Junior has been handed a four-match suspension following his heated dismissal against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu last Saturday.

It is now official. Vinicius Junior has been given a four-match suspension after receiving a red card during Real Madrid's victory over Villarreal (1-0). The Brazilian will therefore miss the La Liga matches against Sevilla FC, FC Barcelona, Racing Santander and Valencia.

The suspension comprises two parts: two matches for pulling Nathan Saliba's hair, which was deemed violent conduct, and two more for his aggressive protest towards the referee after his dismissal.

A goal disallowed before the red card

The incident took place in the match against Villarreal. Introduced in the second half, Vinicius initially thought he had scored Madrid's second goal. The incident was subsequently reviewed by VAR, which detected a hair pull on Nathan Saliba during the build-up to the play.

Referee Isidro Díaz de Mera then disallowed the goal and showed the Real Madrid attacker a straight red card. Furious, Vinicius protested vehemently and had to be restrained by several of his teammates before leaving the pitch.

Four matches, including the Clasico

The Spanish disciplinary committee ultimately found two separate offences, bringing the total suspension to four matches. It is a significant blow, as Vinicius will be unavailable for the Clasico against FC Barcelona, scheduled for October 25.

Real Madrid were already fearing a lengthy suspension after the referee's report. However, the Brazilian will be able to continue playing in the Champions League, as the suspension only applies to Spanish domestic competitions.

Vinicius will therefore have to wait until this four-match run is over before returning to the pitch in La Liga, as Real Madrid prepare to navigate an important stretch of their season without their number 7.
