Michael Olise called an “idiot” after his sending-off!
Michael Olise’s sending-off against Viking Stavanger continues to make headlines, with Kristoffer Askildsen strongly criticising the Frenchman’s action.
Michael Olise’s sending-off during the draw between Bayern Munich and Viking Stavanger (3-3) continues to provoke numerous reactions in Norway. Already targeted by Zlatko Tripić after the match, the France international was this time directly singled out by Kristoffer Askildsen.
The Norwegian midfielder made no secret of his confusion over the Bavarian player’s action, after Olise was sent off for receiving a second yellow card. “When he threw the ball, I thought to myself: ‘What an idiot’,” Askildsen told TV2.
A sending-off that reignited Viking Stavanger
Olise had already been booked when he sent the ball into Zlatko Tripić’s face. The referee immediately showed him a second yellow card, leaving Bayern Munich a man down during an increasingly complicated closing period of the match.
Viking Stavanger then took advantage of their numerical superiority to come back and secure a spectacular 3-3 draw. A particularly frustrating outcome for the Bavarians, who appeared to have the match under control before the incident.
The controversy had already been fuelled by Tripić, who claimed to have won his psychological duel with the Frenchman. Askildsen’s comments therefore add another layer to the criticism surrounding Olise’s outburst, with his action continuing to be widely discussed after the match.
