Real Madrid, for their part, have hardly severed ties with him. They retain 50% of his rights and hold an option to bring him back to the Spanish capital. According to a report in AS, however, a return is the furthest thing from Ramón's mind right now — his priority is simply to keep playing regular, meaningful minutes.

That thinking shaped his decision last summer, when he was in the frame for Real Madrid's fourth centre-back slot. Rather than accept a bit-part role, the Spaniard chose to remain in Italy and continue refining his craft.

His progress has not gone unnoticed. Real Madrid will keep a close watch on how he performs at Como, and they are not alone — Arsenal and Chelsea have also been drawn in by the quality and promise he has shown in recent months, as the same report notes.
