Relebohile Mofokeng on the verge of Europe move

Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng is on the verge of completing a move to Union St.Gilloise in the Belgian Pro League, according to a report from Nieuwsblad.

The 21-year-old has been subject to swirling transfer speculation over the past few years owing to his eye-catching displays and undeniable potential, but no move materialized.

However, Mofokeng now looks set to leave Pirates after impressing in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada.

While he didn't start the first two matches for Bafana Bafana, the exciting talent moved eyeballs with his cameo off the bench in the one-all draw against Czech Republic.

The Bafana international went on to play a crucial role as South Africa beat South Korea 1-0 to advance to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time in history.

Now, whispers echoing from Belgium indicated that Mofokeng has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with Union St.Gilloise, and is expected to swiftly finalise the move.

The Belgian outfit is said to have reached an agreement in principle with Pirates, with finer details still to be sorted out, while both parties remain optimistic of total agreement.

Mofokeng has made a total of 125 appearance across all competitions for Pirates, chipping in with 29 goals and 31 assists in the process.

He won six trophies with the Buccaneers since earning promotion to the first-team in the 2023/24 campaign under then-head coach Jose Riveiro.

Whether the move to Belgium will get over the line remains to be seen, with German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and AS Monaco of France also interested.
