Rennes: Habib Beye speaks his truths to Mikayil Faye
Interview
In a press conference following the 1-0 defeat to RC Lens on Saturday during the 26th day of Ligue 1, Stade Rennais coach Habib Beye shared his thoughts on the performance of young Senegalese Mikayil Faye.
Called up by Habib Beye to replace the injured Lilian Brassier, Mikayil Faye played the entire match for Stade Rennais this Saturday against RC Lens in the 26th day of Ligue 1. The 20-year-old delivered a mixed performance in the defense of the Breton club. He was closely monitored by his coach, who did not hesitate to assess him at the end of the match:
Mikayil Faye, in relation to his position, is the replacement for Lilian Brassier. So tonight, he played because Lilian was injured. He showed all the qualities we see in training. He is a player who needs to show a bit more dynamism. He is someone who is very comfortable with the ball but often shows nonchalance. So he knows what he lacks today to reach a very high level and be consistent.
Mikayil Faye has work to do if he wants to secure a prominent place in this Stade Rennais squad. He has the chance to take advantage of Brassier's absence to show a different side to his coach, who remains skeptical about the playing qualities of the Lion of Teranga. It should be noted that Mikayil Faye will soon rejoin the Senegalese national team to compete in the 5th and 6th matchdays of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
