Rest in Peace: Bayern Munich mourns one of its former coaches!

A wave of grief has swept through German football after the loss of a man who helped shape Bayern Munich's greatest triumphs.

Peter Hermann, once assistant coach at Bayern Munich, passed away on Saturday, September 19, at the age of 74, as the German club announced in an official statement. For a long period, the highly respected specialist had been fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurological condition for which there is no cure.

The coach holds a special place in the hearts of the German club's fans

Hermann's legacy is most closely tied to his partnership with Jupp Heynckes. During the 2012/13 campaign, he served as the head coach's trusted lieutenant as Bayern captured the first treble in the club's history, lifting the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League.

The German coach spent time in Munich from 2011 to 2013, then made a return alongside Heynckes in the autumn of 2017. When Heynckes departed in the summer of 2018, Hermann stayed on at Bayern for one more season, working as part of Niko Kovač's coaching team.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer offered his condolences to Hermann's family and loved ones, stressing that the club's historic 2013 treble will be forever linked with his name.

It is worth noting that Hermann worked as an assistant coach in more than 1,000 matches across his career. During his spell at Bayern, he helped the club secure one Champions League, three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and two German Supercups.
