The probe came to light following a large-scale police operation, which was launched after suspicions arose regarding the breeding and training of birds specifically intended for underground combat matches. During the raid, officials are said to have confiscated roughly 1,500 Murrah roosters—a breed widely recognized for its aggressive fighting traits. Investigators have also alleged that the animals were kept in substandard conditions, with several showing visible signs of injury. Visual evidence captured during the operation has since been made public by the British newspaper.

For his part, Bertolucci has strongly rejected every claim made against him, insisting that he had no knowledge of or participation in any unlawful activities, and firmly denying any association with the staging of such contests. As the investigation continues to unfold, authorities have yet to issue any final determinations or formal charges.
