Sean Connor open to PSL return after league triumph in Botswana

Gaborone United head coach Sean Connor says he is open to a return to the Betway Premiership in South Africa after winning a league title in Botswana last season.

The Irishman guided The Money Machine to their ninth championship with a massive 15-point gap as Gaborone accumulated a staggering 74 points in the 2025/26 campaign.

He took over the reins in February and was immediately tasked with retaining the league title, having joined from rivals and title contenders Jwaneng Galaxy on a two-year deal.

Now, with interest in his services intensifying, the 59-year-old mentor is not shutting the door on a possible return to the lucrative Betway Premiership, albeit for the right project.

Notably, he previously coached Black Leopards in the 2014/15 season, before taking up a role as Cape Town Spurs' Technical Director during the 2023/24 term.

“As a coach, you always want to work at the highest level possible. What I would say is that I would be open to any challenge in the PSL, but it would have to be the right level and the right challenge,” Connor told Foot Africa.

While a return to South Africa is not completely ruled out, Connor insists he is happy with the reigning Botswana champions, citing stability and continuation of the project.

“But I'm very happy here, I have a two-year contract and I would be more than happy to extend that contract. If I have to stay here for five years or more I would be very happy because I'm at the best club in Botswana,” added the UEFA Pro License holder.

"We have the best infrastructures and the best financial support. So, it would take a really tempting offer to prize me away from this football club. I believe that I have a really good project at Gaborone United.

"I have a good owner, good players and good facilities. I want to see how far I can take this club in the CAF Champions League and see if we can get to the knockout stages in the next couple of seasons.

Whether Connor will be in charge of Gaborone United in the upcoming season remains to be seen, with the league triumph having caught the attention of potential suitors.
