Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United have reportedly parted ways with Daniel Cardoso after opting against renewing his contract ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The 37-year-old defender joined Babina Noko on a free transfer in July 2022 after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Kaizer Chiefs.

He went on to make a total of 126 appearances across all competitions for the Limpopo outfit, bringing much-needed stability and experience at the heart of defence.

Despite playing 31 matches for the club last season, Sekhukhune saw it fit to cut ties with the veteran centre-back as they look to trim the squad's average age.

In addition to Cardoso, Babina Noko have also wielded the axe on goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, who was previously linked with Chiefs.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper signed for Sekhukhune from Maritzburg United in July 2023, and went on to make 45 appearances, keeping 15 clean sheets in the process.

His contract, similarly to Cardoso's, was not renewed upon its expiration, making him a free agent and eligible to join any team of his choice.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune announced the appointment of Cedric Kaze as the club's new head coach for the upcoming season.

Having finished fifth in the Betway Premiership last season, it remains to be seen how the team will fare under the former Chiefs co-coach.
