Senegal: After Mendy, could Jakobs also retire?
There has been a bombshell in the den of the Lions of Teranga. After Édouard Mendy, another senior player could step away from the national team.
According to information revealed by 2STV journalist Fatima Sylla, Ismaïl Jakobs has reportedly decided to end his international career. This information was picked up by several media outlets specialising in sport in Senegal.
After Édouard Mendy?
The reasons for this decision have not yet been communicated. The revelation came just moments after the first squad announcement by new head coach Patrick Vieira for Matchdays 1 and 2 of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027. If confirmed, it would be another blow.
At just 27, the Galatasaray full-back would leave the Lions, just days after the announcement of goalkeeper Édouard Mendy's international retirement, after 33 caps.
