Senegal Suffers Major Injury Blows Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
Senegal’s preparations for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers have taken serious hit with the confirmed absences of 2 key player, Habib Diarra & Malick Diouf.
Malick Diouf’s Season Ends Prematurely
Defender Malick Diouf suffered severe injury while playing for Slavia Prague in the Czech derby against Sparta Prague. The 22 year old sustained fractured fibula following heavy challenge from Nigerian Emmanuel Uchenna in the 18 minute. Despite attempting to continue, Diouf'd to leave the field in tears and was later seen on crutches.
His coach, Jindrich Trpisovsky, confirmed the worst:
“Malick won’t return this season. He was progressing towards the top and this's huge loss for us”
A standout performer for Slavia Prague, Diouf contributed 7 goal and 4 assist this season. His absence will leave significant void for both club and country especially as he'd established himself as key starter under coach Pape Thiaw.
Habib Diarra Sidelined for 3 Week
Meanwhile Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra has been diagnosed with ankle sprain that will keep him out for at least 3 week. The injury occurred during his side’s recent win over Auxerre in Ligue 1. Medical tests confirmed the sprain, ruling him out of Senegal’s crucial qualifiers against Sudan Mar 22 & Togo Mar 25
This's further blow to Pape Thiaw’s plans especially with Ismail Jakobs still recovering from injury. Senegal will now have to rely on alternative options such as Abdou Diallo or Fode Ballo Toure to fill the gaps in their squad.
Crucial Matches Ahead
Senegal already dealing with injury setbacks, will have to navigate these challenges as they continue their quest for world cup qualification.
