Serhou Guirassy: "If you miss your chance, you're dead"

Serhou Guirassy donned the colors of Stade Rennais for two seasons (2020 - 2022). However, his tenure at the Breton club was far from easy. In an interview with L'Équipe, the Guinean forward revealed a heavy and challenging environment.

Serhou Guirassy does not have fond memories of his stint at Rennes. The pressure was immense, and every mistake seemed magnified:

At Rennes, for example, it was a toxic environment. In the end, I gave up, it was pointless: no matter what you do, when you're the scapegoat, you're the scapegoat. In certain contexts, you convince yourself that if you miss your chance, you're dead, and then everything becomes complicated. It's too easy to make excuses, to blame it on the collective.

Even though he sometimes gave in to the situation, Serhou Guirassy also learned some lessons: never let yourself be defeated, even when the team is going through tough times:

Even Messi and Mbappé get criticized. It's better when your supporters encourage you, but 𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺. When you're not doing well, you need to take refuge in work. Even though it's easier to do when everything is going well. That's my way of proceeding: I push myself, so I add another layer of work. I forged this mentality thanks to what I've been through.

Today, at Borussia Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy has turned his trials into strength. He boasts impressive statistics this season: 24 goals and 5 assists in 32 matches. A stunning comeback, far from his time at Rennes.
