Serie A: Cesc Fabregas Pushes Assane Diao Towards Spain!
Assane Diao, the standout revelation of the season in Italy's Serie A, seemed to be leaning towards Senegal for the March gathering. The winger from Como, who has scored 5 goals in 9 matches since his arrival in January, was recently approached by Senegal's coach Pape Thiaw, who traveled to meet him.
Impressed by the interaction, the 19-year-old reportedly agreed to join the Lions for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with matches scheduled against Sudan (March 22) and Togo (March 25).
However, the Spanish Federation has not given up. La Roja, eager to retain the talented winger, counts on a heavyweight ally: Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas Puts Pressure on Diao!
The former Spanish international, now coach of Como, hinted that he is working behind the scenes to influence Diao's decision.
Questioned at a press conference this weekend, Fabregas first noted the complexity of the situation: "Assane will soon have to choose between Spain and Senegal. Such a decision can disrupt a player's focus." He then added a weighty remark: "I spoke to him, it's also my role to remind him of what brought him here."
