Daniel Maldini had been awaiting the results of tests carried out after his car accident in Milan. According to Ansa, the official samples have now dispelled suspicions of drug use.

Official tests rule out drug use

The Cagliari player was involved in a collision just over a week ago. At the scene, his driving licence was confiscated after he tested positive for alcohol. A first rapid test then indicated a positive result for drugs. The information was quickly disputed by Cagliari and the player, who had tests carried out independently in Sardinia.

The official samples analysed by Milan’s Niguarda Hospital ultimately showed levels of narcotic substances below the detection threshold, Ansa reports. Daniel Maldini has therefore been cleared of any suspicion relating to drug use.

Proceedings over alcohol continue

This clarification does not, however, affect the withdrawal of his driving licence following the positive alcohol test. The 24-year-old can now focus on his sporting career. He is also included in Italy’s squad for the next international break.

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini also addressed the matter on Radio Anch'Io lo Sport, noting that after drinking alcohol, it is better to avoid getting behind the wheel and instead take a taxi or have someone else drive.
