"Whether I went to the World Cup or not, whether we won it or not, this decision had already been made. I know many won't understand this decision, but it's personal, well thought out, and deeply felt. It has been an honor to represent my country and to be part of this history. Thank you for everything," the Spaniard announced on his social media.
