Spain: Yamal-Carvajal affair, Luis de la Fuente delivers his verdict
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has weighed in on the heated Lamine Yamal vs Dani Carvajal controversy that has sparked intense debate in recent weeks.
On Sunday, October 26, Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal stole the post-match spotlight after Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Barcelona. The two Spanish internationals clashed at the final whistle. Real Madrid's captain took issue with Yamal's attitude on social media. This confrontation has raised questions about their ability to coexist during upcoming Spain call-ups. But Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has moved quickly to defuse the situation.
"There was never any incident, nor any strange behavior from anyone. There wasn't any schoolyard fight. The atmosphere is that of a family, of unity, where the common good comes before individual interests. That says a lot about this group. I think it's now up to the club officials to speak out. I've spoken at length with Lamine, just as I have with Dani Carvajal," the 64-year-old said on the Resonancia de Corazón podcast. "What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. I remember that image from the Euros: Lamine's cross and Carvajal's finish (against Croatia, 3-0), the embrace they shared, their faces—that's what happens in the national team. I am totally and absolutely convinced that the only interest here is the collective one." he stated.
