Spanish Super Cup 2027: Istanbul to host the Final Four

The Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul will host the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, bringing together Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético, and Real Sociedad.

The Spanish Super Cup is set for a rare change of scenery. According to a statement from the Spanish Football Federation, the 2027 edition will take place in February at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium. Saudi Arabia is unable to host the tournament due to its commitment to staging the Asian Cup on home soil.

Two marquee clashes in Istanbul

Real Madrid will take on Real Sociedad in the first semi-final. FC Barcelona will go head-to-head with Atlético de Madrid in the other. The two winners will then meet in the final to battle for the first Spanish trophy of 2027.

The tournament will retain its four-team format, introduced in 2020. The Atatürk Stadium, also home to the Turkish national team and Fatih Karagümrük, will host the entire competition.

A successful first overseas experience in Morocco

The Spanish Super Cup was held abroad for the first time in 2018. That year, the match was played in Tangier, Morocco, where Barcelona overcame Sevilla FC (2-1) in a single-match final.

In 2020, the competition moved to Jeddah. Real Madrid claimed the inaugural four-team edition, defeating Atlético on penalties. The 2021 edition was exceptionally held back in Spain, in Seville, due to the pandemic. That time, Athletic Club triumphed over Barça.
