Already making an impact for Brest in Ligue 1, Pathé Mboup has made his ambitions clear. In an interview with WiwSport, the 22-year-old Senegalese striker revealed his dream of joining the national team this year.

"I can't wait to wear the shirt"

Pathé Mboup makes no secret of his ambition. "This is one of my objectives: to join the national team this year. I am Senegalese, so naturally I want to represent my country and wear the national-team shirt. I can't wait to do it." The Brest player also named his role model in the Senegal national team. "I want to be a great player for the national team, yes, to be like Sadio Mané. Everyone knows him and would like to be like him."

A rise to prominence in Ligue 1

His performances speak for themselves. Mboup scored his second goal of the season yesterday in Brest's emphatic 5-1 victory over Angers, and also provided an assist on matchday 6. A week earlier, he had opened his account against Auxerre. That is already better than last season. In 28 appearances in Ligue 1, he had scored just one goal. This season, he has made 6 appearances, started all 6 matches, and recorded 2 goals and 1 assist.

In his interview with WiwSport, he discussed his adaptation to the league and the work he has put in to become more effective in front of goal. That work could open the doors to the national team, now managed by Patrick Vieira.
