This is exactly why he chose Germany. Leaving Brest and the Champions League behind for a new challenge with Augsburg. This weekend, Steve Mounié scored his first goal in the Bundesliga. And what a special goal it was.

With this achievement, the Parakou-born striker becomes the first Beninese player ever to score at least one goal in each of Europe's top three leagues: Ligue 1, the Premier League, and now the Bundesliga.

At 29, Steve Mounié hasn't always been a regular starter this season. He has featured in 16 matches across all competitions. One goal, one assist. Not a huge tally, but a historic one. Trained at Montpellier, with spells at Huddersfield and Brest, the Parakou native was clear when he arrived in Germany:

In my career, discovering a third major league is a huge accomplishment for me. Some will understand, others won't. But all I ask is that you respect my decision.
