Teboho Mokoena attracts interest in Saudi Arabia

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has drawn interest from Saudi Pro League sides Al-Ettifaq and Al-Taawoun, according to Saudi outlet aawsat.com.

This comes on the back of the player's stellar performances at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he has seemingly caught the eye of the aforementioned teams.

Mokoena salvaged a crucial point for South Africa after netting a nerve-wracking penalty in the 83rd minute against Czech Republic for a one-all draw last Thursday.

The midfield maestro will, however, miss the must-win clash against South Korea in the final Group A outing on Thursday as he accumulated two yellow cards at the tournament.

Despite having potentially played his last match, the Saudi clubs are said to be strongly pushing to acquire his services ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Whispers echoing from the Middle East indicate that Al-Taawoun are at the fore front of the queue for the signing of Mokoena as they look to replace Brazilian midfielder Flavio.

Meanwhile, should the Downs beacon join Al-Ettifaq, he will link up with Bafana Bafana teammate Mohau Nkota, who signed for the club from Orlando Pirates in July 2025.

Having been previously linked with a departure from Sundowns, it remains to be seen whether Mokoena will complete a move to the mega-rich Saudi Pro League.
