Thabang Matuludi to miss season opener amid exit rumours
Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi is set to miss the opening match of the 2026/27 campaign against Richards Bay on Sunday, 02 August, Foot Africa has learnt.
The 27-year-old right-back is reportedly the subject of interest from the Betway Premiership's big three in Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, no move has materialized at this stage, and the player's stocks have skyrocketed after making the final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Newly appointed Rise and Shine head coach Bayano Moloto, meanwhile, expressed confidence that the Limpopo outfit will maintain their grip on Matuludi.
With the club's opening game of the new season on the horizon, sources have indicated that Matuludi has been left out of the matchday squad against the Natal Rich Boyz.
The Bafana international is said to have been doing light training this week despite being fully fit, amid swirling reports of a possible move to Gauteng.
Matuludi made 25 appearances across all competitions last season, chipping in with two goals in the league as Polokwane City finished in seventh place on the log standings.
Whether the highly sought-after defender will be wearing a different jersey this season remains to be seen, with the transfer window still open until September.
