Thabiso Lebitso opens up on Stellenbosch FC transfer

Newly signed Stellenbosch FC defender Thabiso Lebitso has opened up on his move to the Cape Winelands outfit from Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 34-year-old right-back is reportedly part of a player-plus-cash swap deal which saw highly-rated midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane join the Buccaneers.

Lebitso joined Pirates in January 2024 from Chippa United and went on to make a total of 27 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with one goal and four assists.

While he had an injury-hit stay with the Soweto giants, he won four trophies with the club, including the elusive Betway Premiership title last season.

Now, the seasoned professional is set for a new chapter with Stellies, where he will be reunited with head coach Gavin Hunt, having worked together at Chippa United.

“I'm very excited to be here at Stellenbosch FC. This is very good club, with good structures, so I'm happy to be part of the team,” Lebitso told the club's media department.

"Stellenbosch FC is a professional club that does things in a proper way in terms of structure and organisation. For me, it's all about professionalism, so I hope to add value, and I'm looking forward to the new season.

"The club has a lot of young players and has done well with that approach, and I can add value for those younger players with my experience. Hopefully, we can add more pages to the club's history books together as well.

Stellenbosch will be looking to stage a respectable finish in the upcoming season after settling for ninth place in the Betway Premiership last season.
