Thapelo Maseko scored a brace in his first start as FC Copenhagen thrashed OB 5-0 in the Danish Superliga at Nature Energy Park over the weekend.

The 22-year-old speedy winger broke the deadlock five minutes after the first whistle, before his second first-half goal was ruled out for offside by the VAR in the 33rd minute.

He eventually completed his brace in the 76th minute for his first goals in Copenhagen colours, having made four appearances across all competitions thus far.

Maseko joined the Danish giants last month from reigning African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a deal worth in the region of €1 500 000 (R28 million).

The Bafana international put pen to paper on a four-year deal, ending a three-year association with Sundowns, where he was deemed surplus to requirements.

His move to Copenhagen came on the back of impressive performances for South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Copenhagen, meanwhile, remain at the summit of the Danish topflight standings with 18 points accumulated in seven matches, albeit played one game more.

With the 16-time Danish champions set to return to action with a clash against sixth-placed AC Horsens on Friday, Maseko will be eager to maintain scoring momentum.
