The list of clubs involved in the 2026-27 Confederation Cup draw

Alongside the CAF Champions League draw, the Confederation of African Football will also hold the draw for its second flagship competition, the Confederation Cup, this Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Cairo.

The draw will take place one hour before the CAF Champions League draw, starting at 11am GMT, and will be broadcast on the official CAF TV YouTube channel.

Eight clubs exempted?

According to the latest updates, eight clubs will be exempt from the preliminary first round, pending CAF's confirmation.

The teams in question are Al Ahly, USM Alger, CR Belouizdad, AS FAR, Raja Casablanca, AS Maniema Union, AS Otohô, and Azam FC.

The favourites for the Confederation Cup

A mainstay in the CAF Champions League for many years, Al Ahly finds itself in the CAF Confederation Cup this time due to a disappointing season that saw them finish 3rd in the Egyptian Premier League, behind Zamalek and Pyramids.

With their 12 Champions League titles, the Red Devils are naturally among the favourites for the trophy, which they already lifted in 2014.

Other powerhouses are also in the running for the title, including USM Alger, the defending champions, AS FAR—last season’s unlucky Champions League finalists—CR Belouizdad, and Raja Casablanca.
