Official: No CAF Champions League for Al Ahly Cairo
The Egyptian Football Association has officially announced the selection of Al Ahly and ZED FC as Egypt's representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup
No Champions League for Al Ahly. That's the headline news. Al Ahly will not participate in the CAF Champions League for the 2026-2027 season, marking their first absence since 2003. The Red Devils, who boast a record 45 Egyptian Premier League titles and 12 CAF Champions League crowns, finished last season in third place after a disastrous start.
Despite a strong comeback late in the season, Al Ahly couldn't break into the top spots but did secure a continental slot. Widely regarded as Africa's Club of the 20th Century, Al Ahly will have to settle for Confederation Cup action this season.
A historic debut
ZED FC will embark on their first-ever continental adventure. Founded in 2009, the club lost the Egypt Cup final, but that impressive run has earned them a historic ticket to the African stage.
