CAF ranking: here is the top 10 of the best African clubs!
Mamelodi Sundowns lead the projection of the CAF ranking for 2027-2028. Seven countries are represented in the top 10, with a strong Egyptian and Moroccan presence.

The provisional top 10 African clubs

Three Egyptian clubs, two Moroccan clubs and five countries with one representative each
Egypt is the best-represented country, with Al Ahly, Zamalek and Pyramids. Morocco follow with RS Berkane and AS FAR. These two countries therefore occupy half of the places in the top 10.
Algeria have only one club in this selection, USM Alger, in fifth place. South Africa, Tunisia, Sudan and Tanzania also have one representative each: Sundowns, Espérance, Al-Hilal and Simba. In total, seven countries share the top 10 positions.
Points that could still change
This projection is based on continental results from the five seasons spanning 2022-2023 to 2026-2027, with greater weighting given to the more recent campaigns. The ranking is used in particular to determine the seeded teams for CAF interclub competitions.
The “at least” figures correspond to the “≥” symbol: the totals of teams still involved in the competition may increase depending on how far they progress. The order shown therefore remains provisional.
Sundowns therefore retain their lead thanks to their previous campaigns, despite being eliminated before the group stage of the CAF Champions League this season. Upcoming results could still alter the hierarchy before the final ranking is established.
