Orlando Pirates, Durban City discover CAF group stage opponents
Orlando Pirates and Durban City have discovered their opponents in the group stages of CAF inter-club competitions after a draw in Cairo on Wednesday.
The Buccaneers have been pitted in Group C against Moroccan side RS Berkane, Colombe Sportive of Cameroon, and Tanzania's Simba SC.
Notably, the clash against Simba will see South African tactician Steve Barker return home to face a familiar foe after a long stint with Stellenbosch FC.
Abdeslam Ouaddou and his charges overcame La Cure Waves in the first preliminary round, before dispatching African Stars in the second round.
Durban City, on the other hand, have been drawn in Group B alongside Libyan big spenders Al Ahli Tripoli, Morocco's AS FAR, and Azam FC of Tanzania.
The Citizens are making their debut in the Confederation Cup, and face an uphill battle in what has already been dubbed as the group of death.
City booked their spot by virtue of beating Rukinzo FC in the first qualification round, and completed the job against Port Louis 2000 in the final round.
Meanwhile, Rulani Mokwena's Pyramids FC will face Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal Omdurman, Horoya AC from Guinea, and Moroccan champions MAS Fes.
Mokwena will link up with compatriots Tshegofatso Mabasa and Devin Titus when the 2025 African champions meet MAS Fes.
Matchday one will commence on the weekend of 27 November, while the last group stage fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of 22 January 2027.
