Orlando Pirates booked their spot in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinals after securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Milford FC in the round of 16 at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night.

Tshepang Moremi had the first sight of goal five minutes from the first whistle, but his shot went narrowly wide, before Bulelani Sigomoshe was called into defensive duties at the other end of the pitch in the 13th minute.

Pirates broke the deadlock through in-form midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi in the 15th minute, while Thalente Mbatha's efforts to double the lead eight minutes later were in vain as Siphamandla Hleza was equal to the task.

The Milford shot-stopper was once again forced into a save by Evidence Makgopa at the half-hour mark, but was unable to keep out Moremi, who made it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Moremi completed his brace on the stroke of halt-time, ensuring the defending champions head into the half-time interval three goals to the good in front of the passionate Bucs faithful.

Mpho Padime was eager to score in back-to-back matches as he tested Hleza in the 55th minute, with the goalkeeper deflecting his shot out for a corner kick which was dealt with.

Sipho Chaine, on the other hand, was called into rare service courtesy of a long-range strike from Vusumuzi Mthabela two minutes after the hour mark, but the Pirates no.1 comfortably dealt with the effort.

With Hleza at the other end proving difficult to beat for the remainder of the match, Abdeslam Ouaddou's men settled for the three-goal cushion and marched into the next stage of the competition.

Pirates will learn their fate in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, with the draw for the last eight set to be conducted after the final match of the first round between Durban City and Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium.
