Wandile Duba scores hat-trick as Chiefs thrash TS Galaxy in Carling Knockout Cup
Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout Cup following a comfortable 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the round of 16 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
Wandile Duba saw his attempt in the 11th minute get blocked by the Rockets' defence after combining with Mfundo Vilakazi, before firing inches wide of the goal just four minutes later.
The visitors were once again called into action in the 21st minute, this time by Mduduzi Shabalala, whose shot was also blocked, while Duba's effort was saved by Melusi Mathebula moments later.
Pule Mmodi was the subject of a last-ditch tackle before getting his shot away in the 28th minute, with his second attempt at goal going over the crossbar in the 36th minute.
At the other end of the pitch, Brandon Petersen was tested, but the Chiefs captain came out on top, which saw the two teams head into the half time break deadlocked in the cup tie.
Duba opened the scoring three minutes after the restart, before scoring his second of the night from a rebound that resulted from a penalty in the 62nd minute after Shabalala was fouled in the box.
Chiefs put the game to bed as Duba completed his hat-trick four minutes later following the intelligence to beat an offside trap from the TS Galaxy defence, helping the Glamour Boys to return to winning ways.
Amakhosi have made it past the first round of the League Cup, having suffered an early elimination at the hands of Stellenbosch FC through a penalty shootout last season.
Fernando da Cruz and his troops will now await their fate in the last eight, with the draw set to be conducted after the final match of the round of 16 between Durban City and Stellenbosch on Wednesday.
