Breaking: Kaizer Chiefs appear to be in negotiations with one of the standout local coaches!

Press reports have revealed that Kaizer Chiefs had set their sights on coach Manqoba Mngqithi even before reaching out to Fernando da Cruz last July. Now, the 55-year-old coach’s name has resurfaced, following the struggles currently faced by the Amakhosi side.

The current struggles in domestic competitions, combined with the elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, have made the prospect of considering a new coach much more likely—and, in fact, increasingly probable.

Kaizer Chiefs are considering signing South African Manqoba Mngqithi

Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of Manqoba Mngqithi, according to Mkhabela, who stated on X: "Amakhosi are back to MANQOBA MNQITHI. Based on what im hearing now is that talks are already taking place behind the scenes but Manqoba doesn't want current technical team."

The news emerges in the wake of Amakhosi's CAF Confederation Cup exit at the hands of Red Arrows over the weekend. Although Da Cruz has yet to lose a league match, the Glamour Boys' displays under the French coach have raised questions about his long-term prospects at the club.

Mngqithi, for his part, finds himself without a club after recently leaving Tanzanian side Young Africans. The Umzimkhulu-born coach had earlier confirmed that he was in advanced discussions with Chiefs ahead of the current campaign.

Reflecting on those talks, Mngqithi said: "Kaizer Chiefs did have interest in me. But someone blocked the move and I know who it is."

He went on to explain: "I have had very cordial talks with Chiefs, even with Kaizer Motaung Sn. It is not a lie. But it never reached any fruition because there are people who block these moves."

The coach added: "I'm fortunate to know that the person who blocked it I am not even worried about. But it's true there was interest recently."

Mngqithi also revealed that Chiefs had courted him even before his Sundowns days: "Kaizer Chiefs even wanted me before I joined Sundowns. I've had very cordial talks with senior Kaizer Motaung. I know they have always shown interest in me. But for whatever reason it never happened."
