Ballon d’Or of All Time: The verdict expected this Wednesday

The winner of the B.O.A.T. will be revealed this Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Cristiano Ronaldo has a head start in this public vote dedicated to the best seasons of Ballon d’Or winners.

The suspense will end this Wednesday. Launched on October 1 by the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, the B.O.A.T. (Ballon d’Or of All Time) vote is set to reveal its final result on the official Ballondor.com website. Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be the leading contender, based on the latest figures published before voting closed.

According to the data released on October 20, the Portuguese player’s 2008 season had received 75% of the votes. Lionel Messi’s 2012 campaign was in second place with 9%, ahead of Ronaldo’s 2017 season, which had 6%. The organisers then hid the percentages to preserve the suspense until the results were published.

Ronaldo’s 2008 season in the lead

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 campaign remains a landmark in football history. Playing for Manchester United, the Portuguese forward scored 42 goals in all competitions. He won the Premier League and the Champions League before claiming his first Ballon d’Or.

Lionel Messi is also in contention with his 2012 season, during which he scored 91 goals over the calendar year. The vote includes the award-winning seasons of ten players who won the Ballon d’Or at least twice, including Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini, Marco van Basten, Ronaldo Nazário and Franz Beckenbauer.

A popular vote, not a new trophy

The B.O.A.T. is not a new official award. This initiative invites supporters to choose the season they consider the most remarkable among those that earned these ten legends the Ballon d’Or. Each winning edition from a player represents a distinct option.

The vote ended at midnight on Tuesday, October 27, Paris time. The final standings, the number of votes and the podium are due to be published this Wednesday on the official platform. Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s lead in the latest available figures, his victory has not yet been confirmed.
