Ballon d’Or 2026: journalist reveals approach from Harry Kane’s entourage before the vote
A Dutch journalist claims to have received an email from Harry Kane’s press team offering him an exclusive interview ahead of the Ballon d’Or vote. He discusses the various strategies used to influence the journalists responsible for choosing the winner.
The Ballon d’Or race is not decided solely on the pitch. According to this Dutch journalist, approaches from players’ entourages are also part of the context leading up to the vote.
“The closer the vote gets, the more the pressure rises. There are all kinds of approaches to influence journalists,” he explains.
To illustrate his point, he reveals that he received an email from Harry Kane’s press team. It asked him whether he was interested in an exclusive interview with the striker.
This approach raises questions about the communication strategies surrounding the vote. An interview offer, on its own, does not constitute proof of an attempt at manipulation. The journalist nevertheless presents it as an example of the approaches voters may be exposed to during the period before the best player is selected.
Regarding his choices, the journalist explains that he placed Kylian Mbappé at the top of his ranking. He justifies his vote by pointing to the French forward’s performances and records.
“Kylian Mbappé has written history, which is why he was first for me,” he says.
He also acknowledges Lamine Yamal’s qualities, while believing that Rodri was more dominant at the World Cup.
Beyond his preferences, his account highlights a less visible aspect of the Ballon d’Or: the approaches and communication operations that accompany the journalists’ vote.
