The first invited nation to lift the trophy.. Egypt's U17 national team crowned Gulf Cup U17 champions
Egypt's U17 national team made history on Wednesday 4 November 2026, defeating the United Arab Emirates 3-1 in the Gulf Cup U17 final to become the first invited nation to lift the prestigious regional trophy.
The Young Pharaohs delivered another impressive performance at Hamad Grand Stadium in Doha, with Khaled Mahmoud, Mohamed Gamal and Khaled Mokhtar scoring the goals that secured Egypt's first title in the competition.
Coached by Hussein Abdel Latif, Egypt completed a remarkable campaign with six victories from six matches scoring 25 goals and conceding just twice.
The achievement is particularly significant because Egypt participated in the tournament through a special invitation using the competition as preparation for the FIFA U17 World Cup later this month.

Egypt vs UAE: Three goals seal historic Gulf Cup triumph
Egypt started the final confidently, immediately putting pressure on the Emirati defence.
The Young Pharaohs broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Khaled Mahmoud converted a cross from captain Ahmed Safwat, finishing from close range to give his team an early advantage.
However, the United Arab Emirates responded shortly before half time.
Butti Khamis Al Junaibi successfully converted a penalty in the 44th minute restoring parity and ensuring the teams entered the interval level at 1-1.
Egypt regained control after the restart, with their attacking pressure eventually producing a second goal.
In the 65th minute, Mohamed Gamal restored the Young Pharaohs' advantage with a powerful left-footed strike that beat UAE goalkeeper Joshua Bentley.
The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Egypt's favour, leaving the Emirati side chasing another equaliser.
However, substitute Khaled Mokhtar ended any remaining uncertainty in the 80th minute.
The Egyptian youngster connected with another excellent delivery from Ahmed Safwat, directing a precise header into the net to establish a commanding 3-1 lead.
Egypt maintained their advantage until the final whistle, sparking celebrations among the players, coaching staff and Egyptian supporters in Doha.
Six victories, 25 goals: Egypt's perfect journey to Gulf Cup glory
Egypt's triumph was the culmination of an exceptional tournament rather than a single impressive performance.
The 14th edition of the Gulf Cup U17 featured ten national teams, including Egypt and China as invited participants.
Despite competing outside their traditional geographical region, the Young Pharaohs quickly established themselves as one of the competition's strongest teams.
Egypt topped Group B after securing four consecutive victories against Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait and Iraq.
During the group stage, Abdel Latif's side scored 18 goals while conceding only once.
Their impressive attacking form continued in the semi finals where Egypt demolished China 4-0 to book their place in the final.
Daniel Tamer scored twice in the first half before Khaled Mokhtar and Mohamed Gamal completed the emphatic victory.
The final against the UAE provided one last challenge but Egypt responded decisively after conceding an equaliser to secure the trophy.
So, the team finished with six wins, 25 goals scored and only two conceded while Mohamed Gamal and Khaled Mokhtar ended the competition as joint top scorers with five goals each.
From AFCON disappointment to Gulf Cup champions
The Gulf Cup victory also marks an encouraging development for Egypt's latest generation of young footballers.
Earlier this year, the Young Pharaohs secured qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup during the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
As previously reported, Egypt progressed from the group stage of the continental competition despite suffering a defeat against hosts Morocco.
They subsequently advanced to the semi-finals before their title ambitions ended in dramatic circumstances.
In May, Tanzania eliminated Egypt on penalties following a goalless draw, winning the shootout 4-3 to reach the final.
The setback ended Egypt's hopes of continental glory, but the young players have now demonstrated their ability to respond by winning an international trophy.
What's next for Egypt U17? FIFA World Cup challenge awaits
Egypt will now turn their attention to the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026 which takes place in Qatar from 19 November to 13 December.
The Young Pharaohs have been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Greece and Panama.
Their opening World Cup fixture is scheduled against Greece on November 19.
As highlighted during the African qualification campaign, Egypt will be among the African representatives hoping to make an impact at the expanded global tournament.
