Mauritania international produced a sensational moment in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday 4 November 2026 scoring an early goal to give AEK Athens a surprise 1-0 lead against Real Madrid at the Allwyn Arena in Greece.

The 28 year old winger needed just 12 minutes to make his mark against the Spanish giants, finishing a well constructed attacking move to stun Jose Mourinho's side in their fourth league phase encounter.

How did Aboubakary Koita score against Real Madrid?

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute after former Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic played a pass into Aboubakary Koita inside the penalty area.

The Mauritanian international reacted quickly, directing a precise left footed shot into the left side of Thibaut Courtois' goal to put the Greek hosts ahead.

The early strike rewarded AEK's positive approach after Mijat Gacinovic had already forced Courtois into an important save in the fifth minute.

Jovic also threatened the Madrid goal with a header from Lovro Majer's free-kick shortly before Koita's opener.
