Champions League: Como thrash RC Lens 9-1
A night to forget for RC Lens. Como claimed victory in the most humiliating fashion possible.
From the start of this fourth round of Champions League fixtures, there was a huge gulf between the two sides. RC Lens were caught cold very quickly. From a short corner, Luis Milla sent the ball towards Alex Valle, who headed it across goal. Well positioned, Anastasios Douvikas got a touch to send the ball into the net (0-1, 7th minute). A few minutes later, Douvikas grabbed his second with a poacher's finish (0-2, 32nd minute).
Como unstoppable in Lens
Determined to keep piling on the pressure, Cesc Fabregas's men continued to attack, and Paz found the net too. Set up by Caqueret, the Argentina international fired a perfect shot under the crossbar, leaving Risser helpless (0-3, 40th minute). Still in inspired form, Nico Paz picked out Lucas da Cunha in the box, and the France international expertly beat the Lens goalkeeper (0-4, 47th minute).
From a superb Luis Milla cross, Kempf rose to power a fine header home, completely unmarked by the Lens defence, to make it five (0-5, 54th minute). Three minutes later, Douvikas, played in by Nico Paz, ran in behind the defence and beat Risser (0-6, 57th minute). The rout continued as Liberali, who had come on just minutes earlier, embarked on a long run down the right, entered the box and made it seven with a toe-poked finish (0-7, 62nd minute).
Ruben Aguilar pulled one back with a fine volley (1-7, 65th minute), but Baturina scored an eighth, once again taking advantage of the disastrous Lens defence (1-8, 69th minute). Como eased off a little after that, much to Lens's relief, but young Papaccioli, who had also run in behind the defenders, still grabbed a ninth in stoppage time (1-9).
A nightmare night for RC Lens.
